LiveBlog: ‘Skins-‘Hawks, third quarter

Vinnie Iyer breaks down the ongoing action of the Redskins-Seahawks first-round NFC playoff game:
A Cooley high: Man, it took long enough for the Redskins to get tight end Chris Cooley involved in their passing game as the ideal outlet for Todd Collins against the Seahawks’ relentless pass rush. Cooley’s first catch comes at the 2:59 mark of the third quarter, his first of three grabs on Washington’s first trip into the red zone on the day. Now the Redskins need to finish it with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
Balance, shmalance: Late in the third quarter after adding a field goal, the Seahawks have now thrown the ball 24 times while running only 15 times. The Redskins are still trying to be balanced with 22 passes and 21 runs, but it has produced no points. I guess Mike Holmgren likes Matt Hasselbeck’s chances to play ball control through the air. 13-0, Seattle.
Game’s the same: Not much has changed from the first half early in the second half. Antwaan Randle El is the only source of offense for the Redskins, and it’s too sporadic at that. Julian Peterson and the Seahawks’ front seven have come out flying around the ball once again. Seattle’s D is the clear MVP of this one.
Ball-control ‘Hawks? The Seahawks are up 10-0, but for them to protect that lead and keep their defense fresh enough to keep swarming around Todd Collins, they need to run the ball more effectively and consistently in the second half. The Redskins are only one big Santana Moss play from getting right back in the game.↵
