The Emotionally Well-Being of Chicago Rests Squarely on Big Z’s Shoulders Tonight

Your DVR is going to get a workout tonight. There’s

The Office

,

Always Sunny in Philadelphia

, the VP debate (which is sure to be the best comedy of the evening for reasons you don’t need me to tell you if you’ve seen any of the Couric-Palin interview), two worthy college football games and, of course, playoff baseball. ↵↵More specifically, Game 2 of the Cubs-Dodgers series is tonight at 9:30. And many Cubs fans, such as our favorite Chicagoan Blogger Eamonn Brennan, are totally freaking out:↵

↵↵⇥I’m not going to go on and on about this, but after last night … I can’t help but feeling like this Cubs team is going to be found out. Revealed. An imposter. The jig: up.↵⇥↵⇥Oh, the fragile psyche of Cubs fans. Whatever. Guilty. I’m not going to be all Paul Newman-strong-silent-type today, or tomorrow, or this weekend. I’m freaked out. There. I said it.↵⇥

↵↵That was after losing Game 1. Game freakin’ 1. But really, you can’t blame Cubs fans for losing their minds. This is not how it is supposed to go. I mean, they are a lock for the World Series, right? This is their year. And now, somehow, they find themselves in what basically equates to a must-win game tonight. If they can’t pull out a victory, well, let’s just say that freak outs this epic only come along once every 100 years.↵↵Hoping to prevent a city’s collective meltdown will be Carlos Zambrano, who has struggled lately. He had an ERA of 7.26 over August and September, with two quality starts in his last nine. Although, granted, one of those was that no-hitter. So it all depends on which Big Z the Cubbies will get. Hopefully for them, Zambrano doesn’t pull a Dempster and save one of his worst outings of the season for the second biggest start of his career. ↵

↵↵(Correction: The Office isn’t on tonight ‘cause of that VP debate. One less thing to worry about DVR’ing.)↵
