Key for the Cubs’ Next Century: Relax

↵Joe Torre, basking in beautiful California success while the Yankees fish and go on dates with Tom Brady, attributed his team’s series victory in part to the Cubs playing tight in Chicago. As quoted in the Tribune:↵↵⇥Torre gave thanks to the billy goat and Bartman and all the rest of the losing lore surrounding the Cubs after his team eliminated them from the National League Division Series with a 3-1 victory Saturday night.
↵⇥
↵⇥“I think with all their history, to open at home [at Wrigley Field], was an advantage for us,” said Torre, whose team swept the Cubs in the best-of-five series.↵↵Wait, so being a lovable loser isn’t good for your confidence? Basically, the Cubs need to hit that sweet spot next season where they are good enough to make the postseason, but not so good there are high expectations nor home field advantage. Basically, the Cubs need to turn into the Brewers.
↵
↵But really, the Dodgers are just smoking hot right now, one of those teams of destiny. Like the 2002 Giants (d’oh). Or 2007 Rockies (double d’oh). A hot streak can get you through the baseball playoffs with more ease than in the NFL or NBA. Los Angeles is 33% of the way there.
