Injuries Continue to Pile Up for the Wizards

↵
↵Some swore the Wizards were a better, more cohesive team with Gilbert Arenas out. Unlikely this addition by subtraction holds true if you take away two-thirds of the team’s starting frontcourt.↵
↵
↵First, you’ve got news, via Wizards Insider, that Antawn Jamison “went down with a strained right patella tendon.” Jamison isn’t worried, but we know how that goes, and wow this sounds nasty:↵↵⇥“I’m not in that much pain right about now,” Jamison said. “Initially, it hurt like heck. This ice is doing wonders for me.” ... Jamison on the play: “It gave out on me. I didn’t hear a pop or feel a pop so I didn’t think anything was torn but it just felt like somebody tapped it with a hammer. It was painful but once I calmed down and walked around a little bit, the pain went away.”↵↵

Maybe I’m just a wuss, but ice never does anything for me, and my injuries are a lot less serious. Still, keep an eye on this one. More unsettling is the unfolding Brendan Haywood situation. Say what you will about the man some have ambivalently dubbed “Brenda,” but dude’s solid. And while there’s always Etan Thomas, no one in D.C. can be stoked about Haywood maybe missing 4-6 months from wrist surgery. Also from the

Washington Post

:↵↵⇥The injury was originally diagnosed as a sprain but Haywood, who shoots with his right hand, has continued to experience pain and discomfort in the wrist ... “The decision hasn’t been made yet but we’ll know more,” Wednesday, [a] source said. “The best-case scenario is that he won’t need the surgery and he’ll be out for a couple of weeks. The worst-case scenario is that he needs the surgery and he’ll miss four to six months.”↵↵We’ve seen players elect not to have procedures like this before, with mixed results. I do know, though, that without Jamison’s rebounding, hocus-pocus scoring, and leadership, or Haywood’s relatively respectable big man game, this team is most definitely not going places. Because unless you’re counting on Andray Blatche suddenly matching Antawn’s rock-solid production, or JaVale McGee actually being ready, the Wizards are a bunch of crazies with Caron left to shake his head at the mess.↵
