Larry Hughes Accepts Reality ... For Now

Good graces to Heaven, that Larry Hughes fellow is quite the hero. Faced with a bench role on the rising Chicago Bulls, Hughes tells K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune that while he’s not happy about coming off the bench behind sensational Derrick Rose, scoring demon Ben Gordon and $70-million man Luol Deng, he’ll accept his fate for the time being. ↵↵⇥“They told me the plan, and we talked about seeing how it plays out,” Hughes said. “All I can do is accept it, play ball and keep communicating.
↵⇥
↵⇥“At this point in my career, coming off the bench is not a role I want. I feel comfortable getting in the flow, and that’s tough to do because you may be coming out soon. But I will work at what I can control and take it from there.” ↵↵Given Hughes’ history, dude is not exactly in a position to name his role. Maybe Larry hasn’t looked up Ben Wallace’s numbers lately, but at some point you’d think Hughes would realize he was cast away by the regretful Cavaliers precisely because he was so bad he was poisoning LeBron James and the Cleveland metropolitan area by proximity. When you are bad enough to be traded at a completely cooked Ben Wallace, you no longer get to decide if you don’t like coming off the bench. Honestly, he’s a bit lucky the Bulls are even putting him on the floor.
↵
↵Never mind how excellent Rose and Gordon have been. If it were Thabo Sefolosha and Kirk Hinrich in front of Hughes, no one but Larry himself would be upset at the circumstances.↵
