Could D.C. Be Marbury’s Ideal Destination?

There will be Marbury. Or maybe. From Newsday, word comes that the self-troubling PG might yet have an immediate future in uniform:↵↵⇥“I do not think a lot of teams will have an interest, but I think there would be at least a couple of teams,” one Eastern Conference team executive said. He added, “It will be fun to follow from the sidelines.”↵⇥
↵⇥
↵⇥A Western Conference GM said a team might take a chance on Marbury, “especially if they have had an injury and feel like he can help them getting to the playoffs.” He added, “I would be surprised if he gets more than a minimum [contract], though.”↵↵So then it gets a little thicker, with mentions of a “standing offer” of Marbury for Shawn Marion, who isn’t working out so great in Miami and also exists mostly to free up cap space sooner rather than later. But Steph’s recent act-ups have made that one disappear. And the flashy, if totally perplexing, idea that Marbury could head to Dallas to back up his old nemesis. Though that one depends on Marbury obtaining his release, which may or may not ever happen, and which frankly, has made me completely uninterested in figures exceeding $20 million. Like if you offered me that, right now, for personal use, I would walk away out of sheer fatigue.↵
↵
↵My two cents: Steph is insane. Everybody knows this. Even if the buy-out gets resolved, it’s going to take a solid team who can keep him in line to make any use of him as a back-up (that line alone still makes me giggle). And those aren’t the teams trolling the league for possibly-reformed cancers one month into the season. Unless ... okay, here it is. He goes to the Wizards. Spoiled Steph follows in Gil’s footsteps and simply becomes wacky Steph -- a side we have seen before. Everything’s cool and we get to move on, and the Wizards’ putrid season finds salvation from an unexpected source. At least in those locker room vids.
