First, let’s take another look at video of the massive Ryan Clark hit on Wes Welker from Sunday evening, which will probably be removed by the NFL shortly, only to be replaced with another version on YouTube -- you cannot defeat the internet, Mr. Goodell:↵
NFL Fines Remain Impossible to Understand
↵
↵As you saw, Clark was penalized 15 yards for hitting a defenseless Welker. Whether the hit was illegal, or dirty, is up to interpretation. Either way, the league has been fining guys all season for incurring these types of unnecessary roughness penalties. But they’ve decided not to further punish Clark in this instance.↵↵The non-fine is cool with me; we all enjoy watching a player get decleated, although there is something to be said for consistency. What’s interesting, however, is that the league won’t take action against Clark for dishing out a potential beheading, yet earlier this season the NFL fined him $5,000 for wearing “21” on his eye-black in honor of his friend and former teammate Sean Taylor. ↵
