Sports don’t start and end with a referee’s whistle. FirstCuts, a blog dedicated to sports culture, will cover everything outside the lines, from games to gear.
First things first: apologies for the lack of a new release post last Friday. Travel plus e-mail miscommunication meant that you missed out on the general release of the Zoom Kobe III, which was previously detailed when it dropped at the House of Hoops in Harlem. Don’t sweat it; you can still cop the kicks from all the regular places like Foot Locker and just about anywhere else that sells performance basketball shoes.
Also from last weekend, the HALO x Adidas TS Lightswitch GIL II ZERO. In honor of Gilbert Arenas’ love for the Halo franchise, the black and blue shoe was produced -- but only 100 pairs are/were available.
But back to the reason for this post, and that’s the first Nike performance basketball shoe to abide by the “Considered” ethos -- the Trash Talk Nike Zoom BB II Low for Steve Nash.
-The upper is pieced together from leather and synthetic leather waste from the factory floor using zig-zag stitching.
-The mid-sole uses scrap-ground foam from factory production.
-The outsole use environmentally-preferred rubber that reduces toxics and incorporates Nike Grind* material from footwear outsole manufacturing waste.
-The Phoenix Suns’ colorways have shoe laces and sockliners which use environmentally-preferred materials and will be packaged in a fully recycled cardboard shoe box.
The shoe will debut on Nash’s feet against the Mavericks tonight. The “All-Star” Nike Trash Talk is available now at the House of Hoops in NYC and the House of Hoops Pop Up Shop in New Orleans during All-Star Weekend. The “Phoenix” Nike Trash Talk is set to release on April 22nd at the House of Hoops.
