Sporting News’ Ryan Fagan is traveling the Hoosier State, watching every D-I team in Indiana over 12 days. He’ll write about all things Hoosier Culture for The Sporting Blog.
I admit, I’m a bit of a museum junkie. I’m fascinated by anything that has a history behind it, a story that needs to be told. Or a story that’s already been told, and I just haven’t heard it yet. I’m also a bit of a basketball junkie. Which is why the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame is a very dangerous place for me.
It’s the type of place where hours upon hours could disappear. Unfortunately, I didn’t have hours and hours today. Just under an hour, actually, because after the time at Butler in the afternoon, we didn’t get to the Hall until 4, and it closes at 5.

Wow. I have to get back when there’s some real time to examine everything. What they have displayed is amazing, and then Jack Riggs took us into the archive, where they keep all the stuff they don’t have room for out on the floor. Holy cow. The sweaters and uniforms are just amazing -- Kent Benson’s jersey from the undefeated 1976 Indiana Hoosiers, a lace-up basketball from the 1930s, and tons and tons of school sweaters and jerseys from just about every county in Indiana.
If you haven’t been, you’re just cheating yourself. It’s in New Castle, about 45 minutes west of Indianapolis, just a few miles north on State Highway 3.↵
Indiana Hoops Hall of Fame is a must-see spot
