The NBA officially announced today that the Suns and Nuggets will play an outdoor (preseason) game on October 11. Unfortunately, the game won’t be held on a blacktop in the mean streets of Phoenix. Nope, these guys will be ballin’ on a tennis court. It doesn’t get much more hood than that.

This photo has nothing to do with this post, other than Kobe is a basketball player ... and is outside.
Indian Wells Tennis Garden will host the game in their 16,000-seat stadium. The Suns will be hauling the hardwood, scoreboard and videoboards four hours from Phoenix in order to convert the court. No word on who is in charge of bringing baskets. And the balls.
This is the second time the NBA has held an outdoor game. In 1972, the Suns played two games against Milwaukee in Puerto Rico, one of which was held in a “covered arena with no side walls to keep birds off the court.” Apparently, the Ballhawks were the biggest problem. (That is officially the worst joke I’ve ever made. I’m gonna sit the next few plays out.)
