Unless you live in Big XII county, you likely missed the Baylor-Oklahoma overtime madness last night. So, allow me to set the scene for you.
First, just to send the game to OT, Baylor’s Curtis Jerrells had to drive the length of the floor with less than 10 seconds left, down by two. He converted the lay-up as time ran out.
Then the real awesomeness kicked in.
With 17 seconds left in overtime, and down by three points, Oklahoma inbounds the ball:
Oklahoma, Baylor Have Flair for the Dramatic
I believe he got fouled! I believe he got fouled! I believe he got fouled! I believe he got fouled! I believe he got fouled! I believe he got fouled!
Now, with seven seconds left and Oklahoma up by one point, Jerrells drives and is fouled. With one second left, he has to hit one free throw to tie it, and both for the win:
And just like that -- in the span of about 15 minutes -- Jerrells goes from Baylor’s hero to the man I feel more sympathy for than any other human on earth. Of course, this isn’t half as heart-breaking as Darius Washington missing two of three free throws to lose the C-USA title game in ‘05.↵
