FirstCuts: Wii Fit Coming to U.S. On May 19

By Chris Littmann
Sports don’t start and end with a referee’s whistle. FirstCuts, a blog dedicated to sports culture, will cover everything outside the lines, from games to gear.
After much speculation, there’s an official release date for Nintendo’s highly anticipated Wii Fit title here in the United States: May 19. The title already has sold more than 1 million copies in Japan, despite the fact that Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto said, “I don’t think Wii Fit’s purpose is to make you fit; what it’s actually aiming to do is make you aware of your body.”

Maybe the initial hype is wearing off, or maybe it’s that I didn’t use this Jessica Chobot video in this post, but the more I see about the Wii Fit, the more I’m starting to view it as the ultimate gimmick. My excitement has been tempered, but I’d be lying if I said I won’t be giddy when our demo copy arrives this spring.
Either way, it’s going to be another money-printing monster for the Wii. Hat tip to every gaming blog that was up at 5 a.m. today to post this story.
