The Marlins had both the lowest total attendance (1.3 million) in all of baseball last year and the lowest average crowd (16,900). So naturally, those die-hard Marlins fans are being rewarded with a brand new stadium.

The retractable roof stadium will be built in Miami, where the Orange Bowl currently is, and is projected to cost $525 million. Wise investment.
Also, the team will change its name to the Miami Marlins when they move into the new digs in 2011. But only temporarily. Once they inevitably relocate, they’ll become the Salt Lake Marlins or Las Vegas Marlins or, dare I say, the Charlotte Marlins (we live in Charlotte, so this pipe dream excites us almost as much as our minor league hockey team).
