Sports don’t start and end with a referee’s whistle. FirstCuts, a blog dedicated to sports culture, will cover everything outside the lines, from games to gear.

When I was in college, leaving the Mid-American Conference men’s basketball championship, I saw a bunch of title game shirts being boxed up for the team that didn’t win and wondered where they went. Well, if you’ve got a similar question about all that 19-0 Patriots gear, fear not!
Even though the New England Patriots lost, they will be winners to children in Nicaragua, Romania, and several other countries. Through a partnership between the NFL and World Vision, millions of dollars worth of the incorrectly titled, losing team’s licensed Reebok apparel will bring joy to families in extreme poverty.
So if you put down a pre-order for this item on Eastbay, you should probably go ahead and call for a refund ... or move to a third-world country. Bonus shots of a Patriots throw rug and cap included. Eastbay also still has listings for a variety of 19-0 and Super Bowl t-shirts. I guess getting that 19-0 trademark was a little premature?
