Beating Up On Our Team: CBS’ Mike Freeman

Stating just how inept Mike Freeman is as a columnist is difficult. Russian nuclear submarine safety officer? Miami-area amateur plastic surgeon? Manny Ramirez, outfielder? So many options, and so little time to explore them.

Freeman -- an admitted resume fabulist -- writes for CBS Sportsline, and says this week that the basketball media has fallen in love with Tyler Hansbrough not just because he’s tough and bleeds like a man, but because he is white and all of those things, too.

Andy Katz did it three times in his column on November 6th, 2007, for starters. In another Katz article, noted white guy and basketball coach Rick Barnes called Kevin Durant “the face of colllege basketball.†Or Viv Bernstein of the New York Times in 2005 referring to Chris Paul as “the face of college basketball.â€
Just thought I would help you out, Mike. It’s called Google. You can use it for all kinds of things these days, like finding out that Greg Oden, for example, is referred to 105,000 times as being “toughâ€, while only receiving the allegedly black-only “talented†tag 59,000 times.
