UVA Fans Ride in Style at the ACC Tournament

By Chris Mottram
With the ACC Tournament going down about four blocks from my apartment here in Charlotte, I grabbed my camera and took a walk. I’m a blogger, I don’t need no stinkin’ credentials to find the good stuff, right? Right.
So, I wandered around the city in my Mason Final Four shirt (I wanted to wear something that says, “Hey, I’m a college hoops fan just like you guys,” while at the same time being non-threatening), and came across at least one fan from every ACC school. Except Boston College. Apparently Boston-area fans only root for their teams when they’re winning. As you’d assume, the most prominent color around town is Carolina blue.
I had hoped to find excessively drunk southerners, but everyone seemed to be very well behaved. Granted, it was 11AM. But this isn’t to say people weren’t boozin’. At one of the two tailgates I came across, UVA and VA Tech fans had joined forces. The tailgate itself was rather tame, but the way in which they arrived there said a lot about the caliber of these fans:

Yes, that’s the “Wahoo Limo,” and it’s all class, baby.
Speaking of class, there were some exceptionally well dressed folks around the arena. And by “well-dressed,” what I mean is that they looked totally ridiculous. Here are the three candidates for best (see also: worst) dressed:

UNC No. 23 football jersey tucked into carpenter jeans vs. Khaki pants covered with VA Tech logos vs. Duke baseball jersey with jorts. Tough, tough decision here, but I’m going with the UNC fan in a nail-biter.
We have also noticed an abudence of fine automobiles in town for the tourney. Yesterday, Littmann spotted a Duke-decked-out van and later in the day a Lambo (not something you see often ‘round these parts) rolled past us. But the truck I peeped ridin’ dirty outside the arena today takes the cake:

That’s the “Dirty South Edition” of the Ford Excursion, with the license plate “BIGNASTEY.” Based on the color and the gangsterificness of that ride, I’m guessing he was a Florida State fan. Well done, good sir.↵
