It’s Still Basketball: Reasons to Watch the NIT

By Chris Mottram
We’re still two days away from the start of the greatest four-day stretch of the year. This seems like an eternity, I know. And because sleeping for the next 48 hours doesn’t seem like a healthy solution, you’re stuck with the options of actually engaging your significant other in conversation or trying to enjoy NIT hoops. Let us help you with the latter.
Three reasons why watching the NIT’s first round isn’t so horrible:
1) Kenny George. UNC-Asheville takes on Ohio State at 7PM tonight, and it will be up to seven-footer Kosta Koufos to attempt to stop the 7’7” giant that is King George:

It should be fun to see if OSU’s Jamar Butler (or anyone else, for that matter) can get all Tyler Hansbrough on Asheville’s man-child.
2) Lottery Pick. Despite what I may have said last week, Arizona State got straight robbed. But their snubbery gives us the chance to watch future top 10 draft pick James Harden destroy Alabama State tonight at 11PM.
3) Vaden vs. Maynor. Two of the most prolific scorers in their respective conferences do battle tomorrow night at 7PM when UAB’s Robert Vaden meets VCU’s Eric Maynor. Vaden averaged 21.6/game (3rd in C-USA), including 27 second-half points in a win over Kentucky and 41 points a couple weeks ago against UTEP. Maynor is arguably the best player in the CAA, and was second in the conference with 17.6/game. Both are projected to be drafted next year.↵
