Sports don’t start and end with a referee’s whistle. FirstCuts, a blog dedicated to sports culture, will cover everything outside the lines, from games to gear.
For the other seven of you watching Friday Night Lights with me, here’s the latest on a potential deal with DirecTV, courtesy of E! Online’s Kristen Dos Santos.

That’s the latest I’m hearing on NBC’s on-the-bubble, fan-favorite series Friday Night Lights -- that the deal for season three is “nearly done” (a deal that would bring FNL to both NBC and DirecTV in the fall).
I’m also hearing that castmembers’ agents and managers are being told it’s looking “likely” that the show will come back this fall for...13 episodes.
Yes, it seems FNL may be on a probationary period for season three (awaiting pickup of the back nine episodes).[/quote] The success of those first 13 episodes will be something odd to track. Not only will you factor in NBC’s audience, but the network will be forced to factor in more eyeballs on DirecTV plus DVR audiences (the show was one of the most time-shifted of any on television).
I’m willing to wait patiently when it comes to Miss Lyla Garrity, our favorite former Dillon Panthers cheerleader … but just makes the announcement already NBC!
