Madness! Moutaineers Upset Duke 73-67

Now we know why the NCAA only scheduled one game early on Saturday - the pinnacle of polarization in college basketball, the Duke Blue Devils, were involved in a pretty physical and perhaps not-so-shocking L to West Virginia.
The win will come as a surprise only because we’re so used to seeing Kru-ja-woo-ski and company winning during the month of March. But if you watched the near 2-15 upset by Belmont on Thursday, then you understand why Duke failed today.
Gerald Henderson was horribly ineffective again (his 18 points were primarily picked up in garbage time) and the Devils struggled mightily from beyond the arc and as pointed out by your helpful editor, they got way too desperate way too early. And, as we all know, desperation is a stinky cologne.
And not to avoid this being a completely anti-Duke post, it’s worth noting that Joe Alexander led the Mountaineers with 22 points and 11 rebounds while Joe Mazzulla came two assists shy of a triple double. And even Jerry West’s kid got in on the action! In other words, the Mountaineers played great, but it might have been, ironically, more a result of Coach K failing to recognize the need to shift philosophies on the fly, after this Phoenix-esque run n’ gun had brought them so far.
Taste the sad, Michael!↵
