This Man Is Not What He Claims to Be!

ESPN’s “investigative journalism” show, E:60, has broken the Miguel Tejada case wide open. No, no, not anything having to do with alleged HGH use.
↵I’m talking about the Tejada age scandal! Oh, you hadn’t heard about that either? Well, I’ll let ESPN explain:↵↵⇥He is now 33, two years older than his listed age in the Astros’ media guide and other baseball records.↵⇥

↵⇥E:60 correspondent Tom Farrey presented Tejada with a copy of a birth certificate, filed by his father in his hometown of Bani, that showed he was born on May 25, 1974. The document was acquired by a Dominican law firm hired by ESPN after clerks at the town hall in Bani declared -- improperly -- that his records were confidential. ↵⇥

↵⇥When asked if the birth certificate E:60 acquired was the real one, the former American League MVP said “probably” and walked out of the interview. ↵↵Isn’t it just cute how proud of itself ESPN is? It’s almost like they’re real life journalists! If you’re interested, this whole debacle started when Tejada was 19. He was informed by those around him to lie, and say he was only 17 when he was signed by the Astros originally in 1993.↵↵Of course, this isn’t the NFL, so the difference between Tejada being 33 vs. 31 really doesn’t matter all that much (certainly not enough to hire a Dominican law firm to look into the matter). He’s having a great season in his new home, and most importantly, Houston’s GM Ed Wade doesn’t seem to care: “Fact of the matter is that he plays like he’s 25, so I don’t think it really matters a whole lot.” ↵

↵↵Something tells me “I don’t think it matters a whole lot” wasn’t the sort of uproarious reaction E:60 was hoping for from the Astros. Regardless, they’ll still air the story of their Tejada birth certificate unearthing next Tuesday. Too bad we already know how it ends. ↵
