Has Bibby Learned Nothing From DeShawn?

The Hawks are hardly in a position to talk trash in this series. But maybe they figure it’s their only hope. Sort of how DeShawn Stevenson’s routine is starting to look.↵

↵If you missed it, point guard Mike Bibby had some choice words for the newly-energized Boston fans. From The Boston Globe:↵↵⇥“They were kind of loud at the beginning,” said Bibby. “But a lot of these fans are bandwagon jumpers trying to get on this now.
↵⇥
↵⇥“I played here last year, too, [with Sacramento] and I didn’t see three-fourths of them. They’re for the team now and they might get a little rowdy, but that’s about it.”↵↵For one, I don’t get how attacking the fans does anything to up the ante in the series. It might make the Hawks stew a little—after all, where were their fans when they made their first-ever playoff push since 1999? But honestly, I don’t see Garnett and company worrying too much about their fans’ hurt feelings. Nor are they about to take the roaring crowds at anything other than face value, especially since this team was totally different last year. They just don’t feel a connection to the failings of the past—you could almost say that a lot of their momentum, and the enthusiasm of the fans, is based on trying to bury the recent past forever.↵
↵
↵I don’t think the fans would consider themselves “bandwagon jumpers,” but half the excitement over this extraordinary season is that they’ve been able to make a clean break with last season and harken back to older, more glorious days. It’s not a bandwagon if you can pretend the last five years never happened, right?↵
