The WSOP Has an Incredibly Innovative Idea

Well look who up and got all smart on us. The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has finally learned that there is some value in viewers not knowing who the champion is before the final table is aired. In the past, the final table has been played out and recorded in July, and not broadcast on ESPN until November. This just made so much sense. It would be like the NFL Playoffs being aired for the first time this week (The Giants don’t have a chance!). ↵↵The WSOP Commish is just giddy about the excitement that’s sure to surround the outcome of a card game:↵
↵↵⇥“Our intent is to provide an even bigger stage for our players,” said WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. “Now fans and viewers will ask ‘who will win’ our coveted championship bracelet instead of ‘who won.’ The excitement and interest surrounding our final nine players will be unprecedented.”↵↵We should hope the interest in who wins will be unprecedented seeing as in the past there was, well, zero interest. It’s kinda hard to get excited when it is nearly impossible not to know the outcome in advance. Seriously, I’ve tried every single year for the past six years to not have the winner spoiled for me. I was successful once. ↵↵(Info via SportsBusiness Daily)↵
