Well, Here’s a Feel-Good Story For Your Friday

Imagine for a second that you’re a woman (otherwise known to me as “Friday”). You’re a softball player, and a damn fine one -- good enough to play college ball. You’re more of a pesky, singles hitting who has never once -- in high school or in college -- hit a home run, and experienced the pleasure of rounding the bases. Finally, in your senior season, you get a hold of one and send it over the center field wall. Oh, the jubilation! The triumph! The pain!? God yes, great, great pain:
↵↵⇥With the smack of her bat, [Sara Tucholsky] launched her first home run ever into the air. It was her moment to shine, with two other players on base, her run would mean a 4-2 victory. Then suddenly, her leg gave way.
↵⇥
↵⇥“I’m rounding first base and as I’m supposed to be touching the bag and I glanced up as it was crossing over the fence... and I missed first base,” Tucholsky said.
↵⇥
↵⇥The pain crumpled her.
↵⇥
↵⇥“My cleat kind of stuck and my knee went some other way. It just changed, instantly, in a second. My knee gave out,” she said. “I don’t think I remembered I hit a home run. I was just in a lot of pain.”↵↵Yeah, so that’s a bummer. But hey, this is where the “feel-good” part comes into play. With Sarah unable to make it around the bases, the team from Central Washington would be forced to put in a pinch runner for her at first base, thus reducing the home run to a single. Or ... the opposing team -- Western Oregon -- could carry her around the bases. The latter is exactly what happened.

↵Oh, the triumph!↵
