Ozzie Guillen Is Still Quite Awesome

Call me old fashioned, but I like my manager’s tirades to be profanity laden and his clubhouse to be borderline sexist, if not misogynistic. Ozzie Guillen managed to pull off both of these feats in the span of one series in Toronto. ↵↵First, the tirade, which you’ve surely seen enough to repeat verbatim, assuming you could understand half of what Guillen says. All I know is there’s a lot of F-Bombs, and something about Chicago loving the Cubs more despite being a perennial failure:↵

↵So yeah, freaking out in front of reporters is one way to fire your team up. The other way: A blow-up doll “shrine” in the clubhouse with bats acting as sexually suggestive props:↵↵⇥Designed to help the team break out of its slump, the shrine featured two female blow-up dolls surrounded by “strategically placed” baseball bats and was accompanied by a sign that read, “You’ve Got To Push,” Canada’s National Post reported.↵⇥“A few of the bats were doing naughty things,” Sun-Times beat writer Joe Cowley wrote in his blog. Apparently one of the dolls was propped up by a bat in its rear end. Whether the lewdness was intentional or not, this was inappropriate. As were the blow-up dolls. Period.↵↵This is inappropriate to whom, the female -- Chicago Sun-Times columnist Carol Slezak -- who wrote this column? Sure, I can see that. But we’re talking about a Major League clubhouse. That’s like walking into a strip club and being disgusted by all the naked women. You throw about 50 dudes into a room for 162 days a year, and some weird, “inappropriate” stuff is gonna go down.
