Hank Steinbrenner’s Verbal Diarrhea Acts Up

↵Hank Steinbrenner is the blogging gift that just keeps on giving. He’s obviously said some completely idiotic things already this season, but yesterday’s comments reached new heights of absurdity. ↵↵Following the news that Chien-Ming Wang will be out until September after hurting himself running the bases, Hank had this to say:↵

↵↵⇥“My only message is simple. The National League needs to join the 21st century,” Steinbrenner said in Tampa, Fla. “They need to grow up and join the 21st century. ↵⇥↵⇥Am I (mad) about it? Yes. I’ve got my pitchers running the bases, and one of them gets hurt. He’s going to be out. I don’t like that, and it’s about time they address it. That was a rule from the 1800s.↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥This is always a concern of American League teams when their pitchers have to run the bases and they’re not used to doing it.” ↵⇥

↵Ah, yes Hank, rules from the 1800s must all be removed from the game! In Hank’s baseball world there will be no pitching, hitting, fielding, running or throwing. Strikes, balls, outs and runs shall be eliminated. There will be no diamond, no field, no grass, no bases. In fact, there will be no baseballs at all. The sport will just be some finite number of guys (not nine of them though, because that would be soooo 1800s) standing around with one rule and one rule only: one of them is the designated hitter. ↵↵Also, for the record, the DH is a horrible rule, so it’s actually the American League that needs to put on its big boy pants and let the pitchers hit. And since when are pitchers not used to running? They are humans right? I mean, they have run before, I’d imagine. ↵
