This is how I know I’m getting old: I can remember a time when Baseball Tonight actually showed nothing but highlights from the day’s games. It was simple and straightforward and fantastic, assuming you’re a baseball fan. But now, well, it’s just one of the worst shows on ESPN. Which is saying something. Their latest creation? A battle of the bands:↵↵⇥To commemorate the 100-year anniversary of baseball’s most famous tune [“Take Me Out to the Ballgame”], “Baseball Tonight” has asked nine popular musical artists to record a rendition of the song and engage in a battle of the bands.↵↵The participating bands include such superstars as The Punch Brothers and Candlebox, but first up to totally humiliate himself was Peter Gammons, from last Sunday:↵

↵The winner will be decided by something called “SportsNation,” which apparently is a country that, contrary to its name, cares more about washed up musicians performing ballpark tunes than it does about actual sports.
