You know Madden season is close when NCAA Football 09 hits your console. (Oh, wait you don’t have your copy yet? Lucky me.) But anyway, with the Aug. 12 release date creeping closer, we’ve got the official announcement of the EA’s soundtrack for Madden 09↵
FirstCuts: Madden 09 Soundtrack Announced
↵
↵Although this might seem like a non-story to a lot of people, there’s actually a huge marketing push behind the music for Madden 09. ↵
↵
↵
There will be special Madden Music Anniversary tribute issue from Billboard on July 13 in addition to nightly performances on The Jimmy Kimmel Show beginning August 4, according to Kotaku. Also, if you pre-order the game at Target, you’ll receive an iTunes card allowing you to download ten of the soundtrack songs free. Past and current Madden soundtrack artists will perform during Maddenpalooza at the Rose Bowl on August 11.

↵Kotaku tracked down Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing for EA, to explain the push behind the licensed tracks in EA titles.↵↵⇥“But the problem in the last ten years specifically is that radio and music television have failed kids,” he said.↵⇥
↵⇥
↵⇥“The consolidation of radio has ensured that the music that I grew up with would never be able to be discovered in 2008, because radio plays the same 20 songs across America,” he said.
↵⇥
↵⇥“So how do people discover music, or the new coolest band? Through the places where they spend time, and that’s online and playing games. So we decided to take that simple thought process of bringing new bands, new songs, to where kids were.”↵↵He has a lot of interesting thoughts on how video game music probably reaches audiences in a way radio is no longer capable of doing.↵
