At 49, McEnroe Proves He Can Still Be a Baby

John McEnroe, playing in the Hall of Fame Champions Cup in Newport yesterday, pulled off a rare tantrum hat trick: cursing a call, arguing with the chair up, flicking off the fans. The result was an ejection from the match in the second set:↵↵⇥While arguing a line call, McEnroe was given a code violation warning for uttering an obscenity. When he kept up his tirade against chair umpire Ray Brodeur, he drew two abuse of official penalties.↵⇥↵⇥As the argument progressed, fans at the International Hall of Fame court started yelling at McEnroe, telling him to resume play. McEnroe responded with his obscene gesture and was thrown out.↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥It marked the first time McEnroe was defaulted from a match on the Outback Champions Series, an international circuit for stars over 30.↵⇥

↵↵It’s good too see that at age 49, Johnny Mac is as insane as ever. Or, maybe he was just giving the fans their money’s worth. Anyone paying to see McEnroe play in something called the Outback Champions Series is clearly only there because there’s the chance that he’ll go ballistic, and, if the mood strikes him just right, he’ll give you the finger. ↵↵Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a sudden craving for fried onions and low-grade cuts of beef. ↵
