↵We believe in technology and the sanctity of international ↵competition. But our snap judgment and this photo ↵from the finish indicate a Cavic victory. The Serbian team ↵appealed, but the swimming authority denied the claim, ↵ruling the video evidence agreed that Phelps won.

↵Adding to the suspicion: the swimming authority (FINA) won’t ↵release the evidence Phelps won. FINA says the Serbs ↵have seen the footage and agreed with the result ... but ↵for some reason, the federation won’t make the evidence ↵public. I’m glad Phelps got the gold, and lordy that was a ↵thrilling race. But I’m a bit concerned we’re going to find ↵out this was a sham 20 years from now. FINA could assuage ↵those fears by letting everyone see the proof.
