↵Via D.C. Sports Bog, Reuters got at Usain Bolt’s dad in Jamaica to find out the secret to the gold medalist’s speed. ↵↵⇥“It is definitely the Trelawny yam,” Bolt senior told Reuters seconds after his son smashed the world record on the way to landing the biggest gold medal in sport.

↵⇥The yam grown in the parish Trelawny is one of the staples that has made the area famous. It is sold in huge volumes here and much of it is exported. Citizens of the area believe that it has medicinal properties. ↵↵I believe in yam power. We knew yesterday morning Bolt had won the 100m gold handily, and we saw some photos of his mini-celebration within the last 5-10 meters of the race as no other sprinters were within even spitting distance of Bolt.

↵But after waiting 12 hours to see the race on TV ... man, that was faster than any photos or live accounts could relay. The 100m sprint typically feels like a flash anyway; to see a fellow blow away the world record and the field -- and still have a half-second to hot dog -- creates one of the most magic moments of the Olympics.↵
