Packers Get Philosophical on Favre

↵Here’s a twist: someone directly involved in the eternal ↵Brett Favre affair said something which seems to be ↵sincere! Packers president Mark ↵Murphy released a statement on today’s haps in Green ↵Bay, a section of which follows.↵↵⇥Frankly, Brett’s change of mind put us in a ↵⇥very difficult spot. We now will revise many actions and ↵⇥assumptions about our long-term future, all predicated on ↵⇥Brett’s decision last March to retire. As a result of his ↵⇥decision, we invested considerably in a new and different ↵⇥future without Brett and we were obviously moving in that ↵⇥direction. That’s why this wasn’t easy. Having crossed the ↵⇥Rubicon once when Brett decided to retire, it’s very ↵⇥difficult to reorient our plans and cross it again in the ↵⇥opposite direction – but we’ll put this to our ↵⇥advantage.↵↵Though the statement fails to clearly fortell the Pack’s ↵plans, Murphy insists the team had a plan for this ↵situation all along, and will unveil it after ↵breaking it to Aaron Rodgers discussing it with ↵the QB corps.
↵
↵Really, the ambiguity remains alive. Murphy never says ↵Favre will play. Once the Gunslinger reports, Green Bay ↵could trade him, bench him, convert him into a strong ↵safety. It feels like we have received resolution, like a lot was accomplished today. ↵But aren’t we in the same exact place as before? No one ↵knows what’s going to happen. (Which means tonight’s Hall ↵of Fame Game -- Colts vs. Skins, 8PM EST -- will be ↵interrupted constantly with assertions of dubious value.)↵↵
