‘Skins TE Urges Favre to Take Money, Sit on Ass

At this point, with Brett Favre scheduled to return to Packers camp today, it seems extremely unlikely that No. 4 will take Green Bay’s $20 million bribe marketing deal to stay retired. However, that didn’t stop Redskins back-up tight end Todd Yoder from urging Favre to take the loot. Via Chris Cooley’s blog, where Yoder pens guest posts from time-to-time:↵↵⇥Just take the money go fishing, play golf, hang out at some local bar to tell stories of the good old days. Oh and just count the dollars still rolling in. Brett, you just got paid for sitting on you ass. I think this is every American’s dream; so just live the dream, take the money.↵↵Yoder must not be very familiar with Office Space, which taught us that you don’t need a million dollars to sit on your ass. (Peter Gibbons: “I would relax... I would sit on my ass all day... I would do nothing.” Lawrence: “Well, you don’t need a million dollars to do nothing, man. Take a look at my cousin: he’s broke, don’t do s---.”). Also, we must consider that Favre is just a kid out there, and kid’s don’t care about money.
↵↵But Yoder does brings up a (sorta) valid point: Does this “marketing” offer set a precedent for teams to pay players to retire? ↵

↵↵⇥That’s right, have other teams pay star players to hang up their cleats. Obviously they would have to give them the money to buy out of their contracts, but NFL organizations have seemingly endless amounts of money, so why not?↵⇥↵⇥Every player may not choose to retire, but I’m sure many players could find an outstanding looking price. It would also be very interesting to find out how much some players love the game. ↵⇥

↵↵So, yeah, that seems slightly far-fetched, but it’s not unimaginable for a star player to forfeit the last couple years of his career in exchange for a cool 20 mill. That whole fishing/golfing/drinking/doing nothing thing sounds pretty nice to me.↵
