We already mentioned this morning the chaotic effects that Ike is having on the scheduling of athletic events deep in the heart of Texas. One game that has not been altered, however, is tomorrow’s SMU-Texas Tech game, scheduled for 6PM. This is because Texas Tech is in Lubbock, on the western side of the state, an area that won’t be affected by Ike. But it’s not just eastern Texas having all the fun; the west side was hit by Tropical Storm Lowell yesterday, which dumped 7 1/2 inches of rain on the area.
↵↵The result of all that precipitation is a Texas Tech football stadium that more closely resembles an aquatic center: ↵

↵↵Yeah, I’d say Texas Tech’s style of offense would be slightly inhibited in half-a-foot of standing water. But they have nothing to worry about, according to the school’s sports information department:↵
↵↵⇥But, in a brief chat with the Tech sports information staff, everything is still set for SMU to face Tech 6 p.m. Saturday at Jones AT&T Stadium.↵⇥↵⇥The Tech staff said a sump pump problem contributed to the flooding, but that all would be well by game time.↵⇥
↵↵That’s a whole lotta water to pump off the field before kick-off. I suppose it’s possible the playing surface will be cleared, but let’s just say this: bet the under.↵↵(Check out more images of the stadium, found via Deadspin) ↵
