Keith Jackson Loves His Mute Button

↵Keith Jackson, the voice of college football for just about everyone reading this, chatted with Steve Springer of the Los Angeles Times about the state of broadcasting (via Awful Announcing, of course). Wedged under a hilarious vignette about those crusty Pasadena parking cops (how do you not let Keith Jackson in the lot?) is a pretty damning assessment of the current crop of mic jockeys.↵↵⇥“It’s oversaturation to me,” he said. “I wonder if it won’t dull the appetite for football. I have trouble just with all these replays. I can’t tell the old stuff from the new stuff. Also, it seems like there is constant conversation by the announcers. Yak, yak, yak. I just don’t think we need that much conversation and I have a hunch there are a whole lot of folks who feel that way. Vinny [Scully] once said that what we do is capture pictures and I agree with that. But maybe I’m just a grouchy old guy.”↵↵For most college FB announcers, “shut up” is good advice. There’s a “get off my lawn” quality to Jackson’s rant as printed, but a good point is a good point. We’ll see if Musberger and Herbstreit heed the suggestion tonight at the BuckpocolypSCe.↵
