Joey Porter Is Misunderstood

Joey Porter opened his mouth Wednesday and said some things about the Patriots and Matt Cassel. These words made the internet rounds yesterday, with everyone (including SN) seeming to agree that this was Porter talking trash ... again. This is where I become confused. Porter was simply stating facts, man. Facts. Let’s break this down.↵↵⇥“It’ll be good to go out there and get our first victory.”↵↵Fact: It will, indeed, be good for the Dolphins when they get their first victory. If you actually saw the way in which Porter said this, you’d realize he wasn’t predicting a win for Miami. Statements have different meanings based on the way, and context, in which they’re said, obviously. ↵↵⇥“You treat him like you treat a backup,” Porter said. “How do you prepare for a backup? He don’t get that many snaps, right? So you throw the kitchen sink at him. That’s what we’re going to do.”↵↵Facts: You treat a backup like backup and you spend the week preparing; you blitz the crap out of the backup; that’s what they’re going to do.↵↵⇥“He’s a guy we’ll prepare for, but that was his first start since high school,” Porter said. “So you can take all the reps you want to. This is a totally different game, a totally different league. He’s only had one start in the NFL. Take that for what it’s worth. He won it, but if you compare him to Brady, there’s no comparison.”↵↵Facts: Cassel hadn’t started since high school before last week; the NFL is different than high school football; Matt Cassel is not Tom Brady.↵↵So yeah, that’s pretty much all Porter said. Of course, being the hyper-sensitive humans they are, always keeping one eye on the haters after their paper and such, the Pats will try to turn this into the preverbal bulletin board material. Or, maybe they’ll just realize that the only thing they need to see on that board to ensure victory is that they’re playing the Dolphins, at home.↵
