Jim Zorn Knows How to Fix the Skins’ Offense

The only teams that scored less points per game this season than the Redskins: The Raiders, Browns, Rams and Bengals. (You’ll note that this means a team that won exactly zero times in ’08 -- the Lions -- scored more than Washington.) Needless to say, the first season for Jim Zorn’s take on the west coast offense didn’t set the world ablaze. ↵

↵So, how to rectify things for next season? Most Skins fans would say they need to bolster their aging, injury-prone offensive line. Another year for QB Jason Campbell to learn the offense couldn’t hurt either. But for Zorn, the answer is far less complicated. Via the D.C. Sports Bog, this exchange was heard on the Jim Zorn Show on ESPN 980 in D.C.:↵

↵↵⇥Steve Czaban: You were outscored by an 0-16 team this year, the Lions. What is priority one for scoring more points next year?↵⇥↵⇥Jim Zorn: Well, being better on offense.↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Steve Czaban: How so?↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Jim Zorn: By, uh, making our drives get across the goal line.↵⇥

↵↵Brilliant! Jim Zorn, ladies and gentleman, an offensive mastermind who knows that the key to winning football games is scoring more points than the opposition. For his encore, he’ll blow your mind with such genius nuggets as: better blocking gives Campbell more time and the key to a good passing game is not dropping the football. With knowledge like this, it’s difficult to understand how Zorn managed to lose eight games this season.↵
