What to do when the one pro football team you have in your city isn’t winning any championships? Lobby for a second pro football team. This is what Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley has decided to do:↵↵⇥“We should have a second NFL team in Chicago. If San Francisco has two, New York has two, Florida has three teams ... and when you take Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia, they have three teams there in that region, we could easily support a second pro football team.”↵↵Ah yes, the “region” of Washington-Baltimore-Philadelphia supports three teams. Why stop there, Mayor? Check it out: There are nine separate “regions” that are each able to support multiple teams, yet Chicago still only has one franchise! Seems totally unfair (click map to see larger):↵
Look at All Those NFL Teams on The East Coast! Chicago Totally Deserves Another Franchise
↵↵Of course, another way of putting what the Mayor said is this: Three separate, large east coast cities are each able to support one team apiece. You know, just like how Chicago supports one team, too. If the Windy City would like to lobby for more than one franchise, go for it, but don’t start clumping together separate cities as if they’re one place and basing an argument on that. Although Peter Angelos would certainly agree with the Mayor’s assertion that Baltimore and Washington are the same city. (Note to self: Beltway sports humor does not play well to a national audience.) ↵
