Plenty of Intrigue Surrounding Ellis’ Debut

Absolute must-see game tonight when Cleveland takes on Golden State. I know what you’re thinking: It’ll be a rout, the Warriors stink, and without Delonte West and Big Z the Cavs are a lot less exciting to watch.↵
↵
↵But maybe you haven’t heard that Monta Ellis will make his season debut, and that we’ll finally get to see if a Jamal Crawford/Ellis backcourt makes any sense. Or realize once and for all that Stephen Jackson is this team’s PG. Regardless, Don Nelson could very well go all out and start Corey Maggette at PF, which means there’s a good chance this team puts up 80 in the first half. Given the Warriors’ pronounced issues on defense, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll also see LeBron go for 50-plus, unless Mike Brown decides to take Golden State out of their game by keeping it slow. ↵

Okay, so not everyone’s so interested in a lottery team regaining the services of its hobbled star, or in a blow-out of epic proportions. Maybe this news, which comes to us via Tim Kawakami, will add that extra intrigue you need:↵↵⇥I know you’re just dying to hear this… or NOT… but Ellis’ agent Jeff Fried tonight said that the Warriors continue to maintain that they have the indefinite right to void Ellis’ $66M deal, despite Fried’s protests. Fried has filed a formal letter of complaint over the issue, in addition to the previous all-encompassing grievance.↵⇥
↵⇥
↵⇥This standoff is not over, though Ellis is determined to make his comeback tomorrow night, with or without Warriors’ management contemplating a potential voiding.↵↵So let’s try this again: LeBron will achieve a season high, Don Nelson will attempt to sort out the least intelligible roster he’s ever dealt with, and the spotlight will be on Ellis, whose contract may be voided in the near future. Does Monta give it his all and match LeBron, in an attempt to show how important he is? Or maybe he comes up with one of those conceptual statement games, like the time Arenas refused to shoot, to make his point.↵
↵
↵Really, you don’t have a choice here, since Mavs/Pistons is an early game, and the Nets are no match for San Antonio. Give yourself over to the drama, the fireworks, the battle for one man’s soul and a franchise’s hard-earned dollars, that is Cavs/Warriors.↵
