TSB in Tampa: Best of the Cards’ Media Session

Chris Mottram is on the loose in↵Tampa this week. He'll be posting about various goodness and↵misadventures here on no particular schedule.

↵

↵
↵
↵I’m halfway through Media Day, and while I’m enjoying this romantic NFL bunch buffet with thousands of other sexy members of the credentialed press, I figured I’d check in. To the Cardinals’ media session superlatives!
↵
↵
↵

↵

↵Most popular: Kurt Warner. Much like Jesus at the Last Supper, Warner was placed dead center in the row of Cardinals important enough to warrant their own stage. At any given time, there were no less than about 30 reporters forming a circle – or halo, if you will – around his general area. ↵

↵

↵
↵The ladies still love him.↵↵

↵

↵Class clown: Matt Leinart. Not that he did anything that was intentionally funny, but seeing him wandering aimlessly amongst the sea of reporters was humorous. He basically got the same treatment as the back-up center. Even the punter Ben Graham had his own podium. Later, while sitting up in the stands near the end of the session, I overheard Tom Jackson and Chris Mortensen in front of me pondering what the most asked question of Leinart was. Jackon’s was the winner: “What does it feel like to be drafted 10th overall, be considered the future of the franchise, and have to look up and see this old guy [Warner] getting all the attention?” Buuurn. ↵

↵

↵
↵Yes, that's a stogie in Jackson's hand.↵↵

↵

↵Most likely to succeed: Larry Fitzgerald. He has a quality about him that makes you want to hear him answer questions. He’s some mix of amiable, savvy, confident, but not cocky, and interesting without be outlandish. The guy’s an all-around superstar and I'm developing a totally heterosexual man-crush. (He has a great smile, too!)↵

↵

↵Best dressed. The entire Cardinals offensive line, most of whom sat together in the stands, wearing their skin-tight jerseys sans pads in the blazing hot Florida sun. No matter how many times you may see professional football players in person, the size of these men never ceases to amaze. They take the term “muffin top” to new levels.↵

↵↵... I’d love to go on, but it’s almost time for the Steelers session. Check back later this afternoon for my full recap of Media Day, which will include little-to-nothing about the players themselves. (Consider this my favor to you; I’m sure you’re plenty sick of hearing about how Kurt Warner’s career was supposedly over, the Cardinals coaches used to work for the Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger wants to play better this time around, etc., etc.) ↵
