The Decline and Fall of Makin’ It Rain

Sad news from gossip hound Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review-Journal: high-rollers are no longer Makin’ It Rain in the nation’s nightclubs. ↵↵⇥In recent years, clubgoers could count on celebrities to show up and “make it rain,” a popular craze that involved large amounts of cash being tossed in the air. That wasn’t the case at a number of clubs on New Year’s Eve, including Poetry. “We had sporadic showers,” said Powers. “It was only a drizzle. It wasn’t at all like the hundreds of thousands of dollars we’ve seen in the past.”↵↵The economy is partially blamed, though I think the concept’s swift decline following the Pacman Jones saga and Javon Walker’s summertime brush with death tells us more.

↵Like great indie bands, HBO shows and burrito stands: once middle-aged white people know about it, it’s just never the same. R.I.P. Makin’ It Rain. You had a helluva run.↵
