Heading into today’s action, it was well-established that a horrific passing performance riddled with turnovers was, in college football dialect, “to pull a Crompton.” But Tennessee’s much-maligned quarterback just finished dominating Georgia with a masterful 20-for-27, 310-yard, 4-touchdown performance, leading the Volunteers to an impressive 45-19 thumping of the Bulldogs in Knoxville. Strange as it is to say, I sure as hell hope my team’s quarterback “pulls a Crompton” tonight.
Lexicon Update: ‘To Crompton’ Replaced by ‘To Shinskie’
↵This creates a problem, of course: what are we to call a performance when, say, a quarterback completes 1 of 12 passes for 4 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions? Wait, what’s that? That was Boston College quarterback Dave Shinkie’s actual line from today’s 48-14 loss to Virginia Tech? Along with 2 rushes for -22 yards?
↵Problem solved: To fail miserably as a quarterback is “to pull a Shinksie.”
