Hey, Look! Team U.S.A. Just Qualified for the World Cup

You may not have seen it—and given the messy television situation, who could blame you?—but Team USA played a pretty important soccer game Saturday Night in Honduras. And yeah, they were heavy favorites and a victory isn’t really a surprise, but man, they sure made it close.

They trailed early in the second half, and later, a late-penalty kick by Honduras’ Carlos Pavon probably should have tied it at 3-3. But the shot sailed high, and the Americans were able to hold off the Honduras side from there.

(Gigantic exhale).

For the U.S. Conor Casey scored twice in a seven minute span in the second half to give the Americans the lead, and Landon Donovan added another to bring their tally to three. And now, we can all get ready to root on the Americans in the most celebrated sporting event in the world. Hopefully it’ll be televised this time.
