What would a Monday morning be without some more news of 2009 Raiders’ dysfunction? This week’s offering: Randy Hanson, the assistant coach whose jaw was broken when Tom Cable allegedly punched him during training camp, spoke to Yahoo! Sports and for the first time, gave details of the night in question.
Raiders’ Hanson Talks About Time Cable Allegedly Punched Him
↵Apparently, Cable called a meeting with the team’s defensive backs, during which the players “pegged [Hanson] as ‘the problem.’” This only furthered tension between the two coaches that had been in place since -- get this -- Hanson was hired personally by Al Davis before Cable was even named the head coach. It was the next morning that things got violent.
↵↵“From my blindside, Tom Cable threw me from my chair and into a piece of furniture that a lamp sat upon,” Hanson told Yahoo! Sports Friday during an extensive interview at a Bay Area restaurant. “He was screaming, ‘I’ll f——- kill you! I’ll f——- kill you!’ And I have no reason to believe he wouldn’t have killed me if they hadn’t pulled him away.
↵“If my head would’ve hit a different way, I might be dead right now.”
↵↵The case is still being investigated, and felony assault charges could be brought against Cable. I cannot wait for the 2009 Raiders Yearbook from NFL Films.
