Women’s professional tackle football is having a moment.

The Women’s National Football Conference, the leading professional women’s tackle football league, is holding its championship game on Sunday, June 21st from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, and it is something that you absolutely want to experience.

Thankfully the title game will air live on ESPN2 which is part of the momentum that the WNFC has been building. Recently the league extending their relationship with ESPN and being on national television is allowing for a proper platform for the players to showcase their skills and for the league to grow its brand as a whole.

Recently WNFC Founder and CEO, among a host of other things, Odessa “OJ” Jenkins spoke to SB Nation ahead of the title game and spoke of how important this is. You see, women’s professional tackle football, in OJ’s words, is not something brand news. The 900 women that comprise the league are not anomalies. There is a hunger for this throughout the world and the WNFC is allowing for that to finally break through in a proper sense.

Jenkins told us that it is her goal to establish a standard where women can receive a living wage for playing professional tackle football, and the startup that is the WNFC seems to be on its way there.

Sunday’s championship game between the Texas Elite Spartans and the San Diego Rebellion will serve as the latest opportunity for the league to take steps in that direction. Kickoff is slated for 6pm CT and you should absolutely tune in as you will see some incredible athletes, many former WNBA players, displaying their skills for all the world to see.
