Owen Schmitt Tests the Structural Integrity of His Own Skull

If you stuck around on CBS on Sunday night for 60 Minutes you caught this story called “A Blow To The Brain,” which used Tim Tebow’s recent concussion and return as a jumping off point to discuss brain damage occurring in football players at all age levels from youth football to the pros. The 60 Minutes report came on the heels of a piece in a recent issue of GQ covering similar ground. Most of the hits talked about come from nasty helmet-to-helmet collisions that the NFL continues to try to regulate. Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt might not have given himself a concussion, but you can certainly wonder about the condition of his brain when he does something like this (video not for the squeamish if blood makes you uncomfortable).↵

↵What says team pride more than cracking open your own head with your helmet in pregame introductions? Owen Schmitt sees your helmet bumps with teammates and laughs. John Henderson, who asks for blood to be drawn when he gets smacked in pregame rituals, even seems soft in comparison to Schmitt.↵↵Evidently the steel forehead isn’t what it used to be.↵
