The Life of a Coach at New Mexico: Get Punched, Go On Leave and Resign

I had to re-read this story three times to make sure I wasn’t mixing up the parties, but what you’re about to read is true: Jonathan “J.B.” Gerald, the New Mexico assistant coach punched by coach Mike Locksley (right), has turned in his cell phone and car keys to the school in what appears to be the first step toward resignation.↵↵To review, Locksley punched Gerald, and Gerald is the one who is leaving. Gerald has been on paid administrative leave since the incident. Locksley, as you’ll recall, was given a verbal and written reprimand. ↵
↵↵If the incident went down the way the report states it did, how does Locksley still have a job? Regardless of how Locksley was handled, Gerald was probably finished at New Mexico either way. It really is some sort of bizarre universe justice that it is Gerald and not Locksley who will soon be out of a job.↵
↵↵In other news, Tom Cable is already preparing his resume for New Mexico this offseason. He likes the way they think.↵
