The Ryan Leaf Saga May Include Being Deported From Canada

A tragic upshot of being a bust of Ryan Leaf’s magnitude is that his post-NFL struggles will be catalogued almost as extensively as those he had on the field. And Leaf has had plenty.
↵
↵Leaf was arrested in June by police at the U.S.-Canada border in Washington on charges stemming from an incident last October when he broke into a Texas apartment to steal drugs that had been prescribed to an injured football player.
↵
↵Leaf had been in rehab in British Columbia, but in an interview with the Globe and Mail, he reveals how he’s been trying to piece a new life together working for a sales and marketing associate for a fishing lodge. Though his experience as a salesman was minimal coming in, Leaf is a lifelong fisherman with contacts in the Northwest, so the company saw value in him.
↵
↵Now, because of the eight criminal charges and up to 20 years of possible jail time he faces from the Texas incident, the former second overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft is likely to be forced to leave. Even if he is not convicted on those charges, it’s likely that it could jeopardize what little order he has brought to his life.↵
