Vows of Revenge Against Former Team Makes Jeremy Shockey Momentarily Relevant Again

The Saints and the Giants meet Sunday in New Orleans in a huge early season contest that could have serious implications come January. However, for those who need minor personal storylines to spice up a game between two unbeaten teams, there’s always the fact that it will be Jeremy Shockey’s first meeting with his former team since he was traded to New Orleans prior to the 2008 season.

↵↵In New York, Shockey was a fan favorite and a centerpiece of the offense. Since leaving, he’s only gotten in the end zone one more time than he’s been found passed out in Vegas (that’s two to one, for those not keeping track). He’s even been the butt of a joke in a Wale song (“You ------ mad you not me, I remain a giant and you Jeremy Shockey”). So his telling ESPNs Wendy Nix that he plans to have his best game of the season against New York probably doesn’t mean a whole lot.↵

↵

↵What is remarkable is that Shockey's vows for revenge go back to before he actually left the Giants. Newsday exhumed a video interview he did with children in June 2008, a month before he was traded, saying that he would have his revenge on any team that had the gall to trade him. Prophetic words? Probably not. By then, Shockey had surely seen the writing on the wall, considering how he had alienated teammates and coaches and was injured during the team's title run the previous winter.↵

↵↵So will Shockey realize his own predictions and make the Giants pay, or will he have lied to a bunch of little kids? Not that it would rank anywhere close to being the most tasteless thing hes ever done.↵
