In this young NFL season, we’ve seen a lot of bad teams and a lot of bad fantasy performers. Fantasy owners who are having a hard time deciding whether or not to give up on certain players will have a great opportunity to evaluate them this week. This is the week where terrible teams play other terrible teams. Get ready for Bad Football Week In America!
Week 6 Is Crunch Time for Bad Football Teams
St. Louis vs Jacksonville - If the Rams are ever going to prove that they have a passing game, this is the chance to do it. The Jaguars are giving up 273 passing yards per game and opposing quarterbacks have a QB rating of 103, the 4th best in the league. The Jags have also given up 11 passing touchdowns so somebody on the Rams had better be able to catch the ball in the end zone. Jacksonville’s offense is under the spotlight as well. The Rams passing defense has allowed opposing defenses to complete 65.8% of their passes, so this is the time for David Garrard to show he’s worth a spot on your fantasy team.
Tampa vs Carolina - Can Cadillac Williams rush for more than ten yards in a game? Whatever happened to that Derrick Ward guy? Are the Bucs completely hopeless? These questions and more will be answered on Sunday when Tampa faces the sieve-like rushing defense of the Panthers. Carolina is giving up 155.5 rushing yards per game and, even more disturbingly, opposing runners are averaging almost five yards per attempt! On the other side, DeAngelo Williams needs to start playing like a first round fantasy pick against a Bucs defense that gives up 152.6 rushing yards per game. Or else.
Kansas City vs Washington - With the Chiefs giving up 132.8 rushing yards per game, Clinton Portis needs to report for duty and break loose. For that matter, with the Chiefs giving up 270 passing yards per game, Jason Campbell also needs to report for duty and break loose. Both of those guys have been disappointments so far and if they can’t do it against the Chiefs, it won’t get any easier. Kansas City RB Larry Johnson is also on the firing line as he won’t see many rushing defenses worse than the 22nd ranked Redskins. With Washington doing a good job of shutting down the pass, the only way for KC to win is on the ground. This is the week LJ needs to prove that he should remain as a starter for both the Chiefs and your fantasy team.
