Josh McDaniels and Eric Mangini aren’t the first, nor are they the most extreme, but they are the latest examples in what Sports Illustrated’s Stephen Fatsis calls a “crop of young know-it-alls taking the league by scowl.” Bill Belichick’s is largely to blame, but he’s not the only culprit; Fatsis traces the entire phenomenon all the back to Tom Landry.
